I work for the solar industry. I do the marketing for a small solar contracting firm in Nashville.
From a business perspective, Cap and Trade will be great for us.
Why am I so opposed to it? Because it is not good for our country. It is not good for anybody else planning on graduating college in the next few years and planning on getting a job. It is not good for ANYONE who wants to be a productive member of society.
Unemployment is up to 9.5% in June. Taxing businesses is not going to solve any of our economic problems- it will only make them worse.
Pro-cap and traders argue that the economic downfall is worth it if we save the environment in the process. The argument here is black and white; either the government steps in or the earth explodes (figuratively.) What nobody has been paying attention to, is that there may be several shades of gray in between. The solar industry (which I will focus on because it is the area I have experience in) has been rapidly growing every year since 2003, and projected to keep rapidly growing through 2010.

The private sector is already starting to invest in renewable energy without the government giving it a kick start. It's kind of like giving your kid such a big push start on his bike the first time, that you fall on your face. The U.S government and WE THE PEOPLE cannot afford this kick start, especially if things will get there on their own if we just let it happen.
